Bongbong Marcos joins Partido Federal ng Pilipinas ahead of Eleksyon 2022

Former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Tuesday joined the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and assumed position as its chairman.

A statement from his camp said Marcos took his oath as party member before South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, president of PFP, during the party's third anniversary.

Marcos, formerly a member of Nacionalista Party, assumed PFP chairmanship after taking his oath which was witnessed by his wife, lawyer Louise Araneta-Marcos, and their sons Sandro and Simon.

The son of the late President Ferdinand Marcos has said he will run for a national post in the 2022 elections but has yet to bare what position.

He, however, ranked second in the latest Pulse Asia survey on possible presidential candidates for the 2022 polls, scoring 15% behind survey leader Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who scored 20%.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for those running in next year's local and national elections is ongoing and will end on October 8.

PFP endorsed Marcos for the 2022 presidential race last September 21, the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by the former senator's father.

Back in August, the younger Marcos said he will seek presidency if he will be able to muster enough support.

Marcos lost the 2016 vice presidential race to then-Camarines Sur representative Leni Robredo by 263,473 votes. He protested his defeat before the Supreme Court, but the court ruled in Robredo's favor.  —KBK, GMA News
