PSA: 2.2 million Filipinos received national ID as of end-September

The government has so far distributed more than two million national ID cards, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Thursday.

“Pagdating sa nakatanggap na ng ID, ang report ng PHLPost (Philippine Postal Corporation) as of September 30 ay meron ng 2.2 million Filipinos na nakatanggap na ng PhilID,” PSA Assistant Secretary Rosalinda Bautista said at the Laging Handa briefing.

(With regards to those who have received the ID, the PHLPost reported that as of September 30 there are 2.2 million Filipinos who received their PhilID [cards].)

Meanwhile, 43.2 million Filipinos have registered in the national ID system (Step 1).

This means an individual has already registered online via register.philsys.gov.ph and filled out the online application form containing personal information such as full name, address, date of birth, among others.

As for Step 2 or the capturing of biometric information as well as verification of the personal details the individuals previously provided via online registration, Bautista said there are 34.99 million Filipinos who have completed the process and are awaiting for the release of their ID cards.

The government is eyeing to enlist at least 50 million Filipinos to the national ID by the end of the year., which the National Economic and Development Authority says is needed to efficiently identify beneficiaries for social protection programs and spark the widespread use of electronic payments to accelerate the digital economy. — VBL, GMA News
