Voting in Eleksyon 2022 set from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. — Comelec's Casquejo
The voting hours for the May 2022 national and local elections will be from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said on Wednesday.
During a briefing of the House committee on suffrage and electoral reforms, Casquejo said that the Comelec en banc already approved the general instructions for the electoral board that will be enforced on Election Day.
"We do not expect that it will end at 7 o'clock, it will continue until such time all those inside or within 30 meters will be catered. We have procedures on that," he said.
The general elections will be held on May 9, 2022.
Comelec Director Teopisto Elnas Jr. said the poll body is eyeing to have separate rooms for the voters and for those who will wait for their turn to cast their ballots.
"Magkakaroon ng inventory sa lahat ng voting centers as far as the availability of classrooms. If in case, ima-mandatory natin na 'yung one room will be devoted for voting, and the other room will be devoted as holding areas for voters waiting for their time to get inside the voting room to cast their vote(s)," Elnas said.
(As far as the availability of classrooms is concerned, we will conduct an inventory of all voting centers. If this becomes mandatory, one room will be devoted to voting, and the other room will be devoted to holding areas for voters waiting for their turn to get inside the voting room to cast their votes.)
Elnas also said that there would be voter assistance desks and COVID-19 marshals to ensure that health protocols are followed on Election Day.
Meanwhile, Casquejo said that the honorarium for the electoral board, usually composed of public school teachers, as well as the support staff, would be increased by P3,000. — VBL, GMA News
