Philippines records 544 new COVID-19 cases, active cases at 14,977

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday recorded 544 new COVID-19 cases bringing the nationwide tally to 2,833,878.

This is the 10th consecutive day the country recorded less than 1,000 new cases.

The DOH said active infections stood at 14,977, of which, 688 are asymptomatic, 7,166 are mild, 3,801 are moderate, 2,433 are severe, and 889 are in critical condition.

The Philippines' COVID-19 positivity rate was at 1.8%, slightly higher than the 1.7% positivity rate recorded on Thursday.

Both are within the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than 5% positivity rate. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were at 32,908.

Meanwhile, total recoveries climbed by 734 to 2,769,914 while 235 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 48,987.

It also showed that 27% of 3,600 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 14% of the 13,000 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 19% of the 3,900 ward beds in the National Capital Region (NCR) were in use.

Based on the latest report, the DOH said two laboratories were not operational since November 30, while there were five laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The health department reported 17 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 13 are recoveries.

In addition, 122 cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count.

Meanwhile, at least 218 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.—AOL, GMA News
