ELEKSYON 2022

Isko Moreno says he supports Duterte's senatorial bid

Presidential aspirant and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Monday expressed support for the senatorial bid of President Rodrigo Duterte in May 2022 elections.

In a press conference in Lapu-Lapu City, Moreno bared he already has four senatorial candidates whom he will vote for in the elections — the three under his Aksyon Demokratiko banner and Duterte.

“Ako sigurado na ako na apat na ang iboboto ko. Yung aking tatlong senador at saka ‘yung personal choice ko rin na si President Duterte as senator,” he said.

(I am already sure that I will vote for four candidates. Three candidates under my senatorial slate and my personal choice, President Duterte.)

Moreno also said he would be "grateful, honored and humbled to have somebody like the president in our slate as an additional candidate for senator."

Running for senator under Moreno are Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc, entrepreneur Carl Balita, and legal expert Jopet Sison.

Moreno cited the national projects that benefited the city of Manila for his support for Duterte. He added that Duterte is a qualified candidate as he acknowledged the President's capabilities as a legislator.

According to Moreno, he will personally endorse Duterte if the President would allow him.

Moreno pointed out that Duterte is now considered an “orphan” since his presidential candidate, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has already announced his intention to withdraw from the 2022 presidential race.

Go, however, has yet to go to the Commission on Elections national office in Intramuros, Manila, to formally submit his formal withdrawal as presidential candidate of Pederalismo ng Dakilang Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).  —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
