Palace: Duterte looking for successor who will truly serve nation

President Rodrigo Duterte will support a presidential candidate who will truly serve the public, Malacañang said Tuesday.

“Siyempre maraming wini-weigh si Pangulong Duterte sa desisyon na iyan. Pero ang talagang number one diyan, kung ano po at sino po ang makakapaglingkod ng tunay sa ating bayan,” acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles said at a press briefing.

(President Duterte is weighing a lot of things with regard to that decision. But the number one consideration would be who will truly serve our nation.)

Duterte has endorsed Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, his former aide, to succeed him after his six-year term ends on June 30, 2022. Go, however, announced on November 30 that he would no longer pursue his presidential bid.

The lawmaker said on Monday he has until election day, May 9, 2022, to officially withdraw his certificate of candidacy, citing the Commission on Elections.  — VBL, GMA News
