CHR launches Human Rights Institute to boost education, research

The Commission on Human Rights on Friday launched its institute that aims to strengthen the information, education, and research on human rights in the country.

During the launch, CHR Commissioner Karen Gomez-Dumpit said the Human Right Institute (HRI) will work on providing formal and non-formal education on human rights.

“Learning human rights is one of the pressing needs of our country and the world today,” she said.

“Human rights is relevant in solving and addressing modern day problems and challenges such as impunity, climate change, inequality, and of course, persisting human rights violation,” she added.

The HRI will collaborate with schools and other partner agencies abroad.

On the celebration of International Human Rights Day, the HRI also launched free online courses about human rights on their website.

The HRI will offer a continuing program of research, education, and information.

“Our mission is to build and sustain a culture of human rights in the Philippines and among Filipinos abroad,” it said.

“We provide human rights research, education, and information not only on knowledge relating human rights, but also skills and understanding; and develop attitudes and behaviors that build and sustain a culture of human rights,” it added.
