The reported death toll due to Typhoon Odette has climbed to 177, with 275 injured and 38 still missing, the  National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Wednesday.

The NDRRMC, however, said only 11 deaths were confirmed including those reported in Palawan, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Bohol, Bukidnon, and Misamis Oriental.

According to its latest situation report, 1,382,252 people or 368,063 families were affected by the typhoon in 3,238 barangays in Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and Bangsamoro.

The NDRRMC also said 446,939 individuals or 109,601 families were staying inside 2,505 evacuation centers, while 107,377 people or 26,588 families were staying in the houses of their relatives and friends.

Communication issues were also being experienced in 135 areas in affected regions, the NDRRMC report said.

All of the five airports in the affected areas are now operational, the NDRRMC said, adding of the 25 suspended domestic flights, eight have already resumed.

A total of 122 seaports went non-operational due to the typhoon, of which 55 are already functioning. At least 1,551 passengers, 690 rolling cargoes, and five vessels were stranded.

At least 308 classes and 267 work schedules were also suspended.

President Rodrigo Duterte has already declared a state of calamity in regions hit by Odette, which pummeled many areas in Mindanao, Visayas and Palawan in Luzon last week. —KBK, GMA News
