LWUA to send mobile treatment facility to provide potable water to Odette-hit areas

The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) will send a mobile water treatment facility to provide drinkable water in areas affected by Typhoon Odette, one of its officials said on Wednesday.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, LWUA Corporate Board Secretary Abner Malabanan said the equipment will be brought to Butuan City.

“Ang dadalhin natin ay 'yung truck kung saan nandoon na 'yung mobile na treatment facility para 'yung tubig na gagamitin ay mainom nila,” he said.

(What we will bring is a truck with a mobile treatment facility so that the water can be made potable.)

According to Malabanan, the treatment facility can clean water from different sources such as seas and rivers. The treated water can also be delivered to other areas with supply problems.

The LWUA has created Task Force Odette that will be divided into six teams to cover the six regions where a state of calamity has been declared.

Malabanan said the LWUA is still assessing the damage in the affected areas.

Some areas affected by the typhoon like Cebu and Bohol have been appealing to have their water supply back.

Bohol Governor Arthur Yap requested for more generators especially for water refilling stations as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and power distribution utilities said that power would be back in a month. —KG, GMA News
