2 more party-list groups rejected by Comelec secure TRO from SC

The Supreme Court (SC) issued Thursday temporary restraining orders (TRO) on the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) rejection of registration of the two party-list groups for Eleksyon 2022.

The High Tribunal has granted the application for the issuance of TRO filed by Ugyon Mangunguma, Mangingisda Kag Mamumugon Nga Ilonggo (UMA ILONGGO) and Ang Programang Aasenso Taumbayan- Dream Act, Participate, and Advocate for Sustainable Transformation (APAT-DAPAT).

According to the TROs dated December 23, both groups’ petitions appear to be sufficient in form and substance.

The SC required Comelec to file a comment on the petition within a non-extendible period of 10 days from the issuance of the notice.

The raffle for the order of the party-list on the ballot was conducted last December 14.

Party-list groups that did not secure legal remedies from the SC prior to December 14 were not included in the raffle.

Comelec has yet to explain how the TROs will affect the raffle and the order of the party-lists on the ballot.—AOL, GMA News
