New spare parts for MRT3 arrive

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Wednesday the new supply of spare parts for Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) have arrived at the rail system’s depot.

In a Facebook post, the DOTr said the parts are pantograph, speedometer, and MESSMA card.

“Ang pantograph ay ang aparato sa taas ng tren na responsable sa pagkolekta ng kuryenteng nagpapatakbo rito sa pamamagitan ng overhead wire,” it said.

(A pantograph is an apparatus above a train responsible for collecting electricity that makes it run via an overhead wire.)

“Ang speedometer ay ginagamit upang matukoy at makontrol ang bilis ng tren,” the DOTr said.

(The speedometer is used to measure and control train speed.)

The MESSMA card, on the other hand, functions like a “black box” of an aircraft that records the train’s speed, brakes, and stops.

“Ang mga piyesang ito ay ginagamit sa pagmimintina at overhauling ng mga bagon ng MRT3, sa pamamagitan ng maintenance provider ng linya,” the DOTr said.

(These spare parts are used for maintenance and overhauling of train sets of MRT3 by the railway’s maintenance provider.)

The agency said 38 out of 72 trains of the MRT3 have been overhauled and being deployed in the railway’s mainline.  —Ted Cordero/KBK, GMA News
