PNP to investigate traveler, hotel owners, BOQ workers over Makati quarantine breach

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will look into the reported quarantine breach at a hotel in Makati City and file cases against those who committed violations, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday.

In a message to reporters, PNP Chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said that Interior Secretary Eduardo Año and acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles ordered them to file cases against anyone who violated quarantine rules.

“CIDG is directed to file appropriate case/s against Ms. Chua, the hotel owners and management, BOQ [Bureau of Quarantine] personnel, etc.,” Carlos said.

Also, the PNP was tasked to randomly inspect and account for persons under quarantine in designated hotels serving as quarantine facilities.

“The PNP was mandated to ensure public safety, will do the rounds, inspection, and accounting of persons under quarantine in the designated hotels-quarantine facilities,” Carlos said.

Carlos noted that violators would be criminally charged immediately.

On Thursday, the Department of Tourism reported that a returning overseas Filipino from the United States did not undergo hotel quarantine and even attended a party in Makati.

Some party attendees later tested positive for COVID-19.
