Former senator Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito revealed on Monday that he was diagnosed with COVID-19 amid the rise of infections in Metro Manila.

The former legislator wished Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco, who also contracted COVID-19, would recover soon.

Ejercito added that he had also contracted the disease.

"Pareng  @TobyTiangco get well soon!  Sabay pa tayong nag positive!  Bilis kumalat nitong Omicron pero buti na lang mild lang siya! Ingat lang lahat!" said Ejercito in a tweet.

(We tested positive at the same time. This Omicron can spread fast but it's a good thing it's mild.)

In a separate statement to reporters, Ejercito said he had mild symptoms and that it was the first time that he was infected with the virus.

"Pero it's mild, after two days wala na ako fever or other symptoms. (I had no more fever or other symptoms)," he said in a Viber message.

Ejercito is seeking a senatorial bid again in 2022. He failed to land in the Magic 12 in the 2019 midterm elections. -- Consuelo Marquez/BAP, GMA News
