Angat Dam water seen to drop to critical level by April — NWRB

The water level in Angat Dam may drop to its critical level by April, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said on Tuesday.

Interviewed on Dobol B TV, NWRB executive director Dr. Sevillo David Jr. said this is based on the current water consumption and projected weather.

“Ang critical level na sinasabi po natin ay 180 meters…baka po sa mga bandang buwan ng April ay umabot tayo doon…Ngayon nakikinita po natin by April po ay bababa siya” he said.

(The critical level that I am saying is 180 meters. We may reach it by the month of April. We are seeing that the water level will drop by April.)

Angat Dam, which supplies 90% of Metro Manila’s water needs, did not reach the expected water level of 212 meters at the end of 2021, David said.

Its water level is currently at 202.8 meters, which is around nine meters short of the expected water level, according to David.

Due to this, David appealed to the public to conserve water as early as now to avoid problems in supply in the future.

He pointed out the importance of having reliable water supply amid the COVID-19 pandemic especially with the emergence of the Omicron variant in the country. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
