Journal editor-in-chief Gus Villanueva writes 30


Philippine Journalists Incorporated editor-in-chief Augusto “Gus” Villanueva passed away on Friday. He was 83 years old.

Villanueva began his career as a sportswriter under then Manila Times Sports editor Ricky Llanos in 1955. Years later, he became an editor of the Times Journal in 1972.

The late chief was also among the founders of the People’s Journal in 1978 and the People’s Tonight in 1979.

In the late 70s, Villanueva was the president of the Philippine Sportswriter Association, where he introduced the weekly PSA Forum.

Villanueva was later awarded by the PSA with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Due to the high number of COVID-19 cases, Villanueva’s family decided to exercise caution for the health and safety of his relatives.

His ashes will be kept at home after his cremation.
