PNP-CIDG arrests 8 of its personnel over alleged robbery extortion

The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) on Wednesday condemned the alleged involvement of eight of its  personnel in a robbery extortion incident in Angeles City, Pampanga.

In a press conference, CIDG Director Major General Ignatius Ferro said eight CIDG personnel were arrested during a reported robbery in a subdivision in Angeles City, Pampanga on Wednesday morning.

Ferro said the authorities received a report of an ongoing robbery, supposedly being carried out by a group of armed men in civilian clothes who identified themselves as CIDG personnel.

He said the CIDG Angeles City Field Unit immediately responded and intercepted three men with firearms moving out the reported establishment.

They also arrested five others inside the victims’ house, while seven Chinese nationals and a Filipino helper were rescued by the authorities.

Ferro, citing the victims, said the suspects entered the house and held the victims inside.

He said the arrested personnel claimed that they were conducting a buy-bust operation.

He, however, noted that this was investigated and found out inside the suspects’ vehicles the assorted victims’ belongings including cash with an amount of P300,000.

Ferro said the arrested suspects were detained at the CIDG Angeles City Field Unit, while a complaint was being prepared for filing.

“We are assuring everyone, the CIDG is one with the chief PNP in taking necessary legal action to stop the wrongdoings of anybody inside the organization,” he said.

“Administrative and criminal cases will be filed against them. They will be disciplined and investigated and we will charge administratively and criminally,” he added. — BM, GMA News
