Marcos Jr. receipt for tax deficiencies was for lease rental payments –Guanzon

The receipt of payment for tax deficiencies presented by the camp of presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr. were payments for lease rentals, Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said Friday.

“Ngayon sabi nila nagbayad sila sa BIR [Bureau of Internal Revenue] ng deficiency tax. Tinignan namin yung resibo nila na photocopy lang naman. Nakalagay payment of lease rentals,” Guanzon said on The Mangahas Interviews.

(They said they paid their tax deficiencies with the BIR. We looked at their receipt but it was only a photocopy. It said it was a payment for lease rentals.)

“At saka pinagbigyan ko sila ng ilang araw para mag-produce ng certified copy. Wala naman silang sinabmit,” she added.

(I also gave them several days to produce a certified copy of their receipts. They didn’t submit anything.)

In December 2021, Marcos’ spokesman Atty. Vic Rodriguez showed a certification from the Bureau of Internal Revenue that Marcos supposedly paid his tax deficiencies and fines for 1982 to 1985 at the Land Bank of the Philippines.

Guanzon, however, said this was different from the fines at the Regional Trial Court.

“Hindi yun bayad sa multa sa Regional Trial Court. May certification nga ang RTC na wala pang satisfaction of judgment. Dapat doon sila nagbayad ng multa. Iba yung deficiency tax na babayaran mo doon sa BIR,” she said.

(That's not a payment for Regional Trial Court fines. The RTC has a certification that there has not been any satisfaction of judgment. That's where they should have paid the fine. The tax deficiency payment with the BIR is a different matter.)

Guanzon previously revealed that her opinion was to disqualify Marcos due to moral turpitude.
