Drop in corruption perception index ranking not a gov't failure –Palace

Palace spokesperson Karlo Nograles on Friday denied that the drop in the Philippines ' ranking in Transparency International's 2021 corruption perception index was a government failure.
At a Palace briefing, Nograles said that the country scored better in other indicators on the matter.
“We have the Open Budget Survey, mataas ranking natin doon (we ranked well there),” he said.
Nograles said the government would look into the parameters considered in the Transparency International ranking that the country needed to improve on.
“What we have to do na lang is to look at this particular indicator, dissect it into its elements, and see kung ano ang mga areas na (what are the areas) we need to improve,” he said.
The Philippines dropped to 117th from 115th place among 180 countries in the 2021 corruption perception index with a score of 33 out of 100.
Transparency International said a country’s score is the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0-100, where zero meant highly corrupt and 100 meant honest. — DVM, GMA News
