Areas under granular lockdown decreased to 884 —PNP

The number of areas under granular lockdown across the country due to COVID-19 has decreased from 1,036 to 884, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday.

As of Monday, the PNP said 406 of these areas are in Cordillera, 292 in Ilocos, 152 in Cagayan, 14 in the National Capital Region, 12 in Zamboanga, and eight in Mimaropa.

A total of 2,359 people were affected by the restrictions.

The PNP has deployed 226 personnel and 874 force multipliers to ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards in the areas under lockdown.

Local government units (LGUs) decide whether to impose or lift a granular lockdown on a house, compound, street, or building based on the number of infections reported.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level area COVID-19 quarantines for "critical zones" in LGUs.

On Monday, the Department of Health reported 14,546 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the Philippines’ total caseload to 3,560,202. Of the total, 190,818 are still active cases. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
