Sara keeps VP race lead, Sotto top 2nd choice –Pulse Asia January poll


Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio remained the frontrunner for the vice-presidential spot in the latest Pulse Asia Research Inc. nationwide survey, which was conducted from January 19 to 24, before the start of the campaign period.

Face-to-face interviews of 2,400 representative adults conducted from January 19 to 24, 2022 found that some 50% of the respondents would vote for Duterte if the elections were held during the survey period.

Duterte was followed by Senator Vicente “Tito Sotto III with 29%, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan with 11%, Doctor Willie Ong with 5%, and Representative Jose “Lito” Atienza Jr. with 1%.

Falling behind were Emmanuel Lopez with 0.1%, Atty. Carlos Serapio with 0.1%, and former Akbayan Party-List Representative Walden Bello and Rizalito David with 0.02% each.

Some 3% of the respondents were unsure of their top choice, or refused to name their top candidate.

In terms of location, Duterte was the top choice in the National Capital Region with 40%, Balance Luzon with 36%, Visayas with 47%, and her bailiwick Mindanao with 84%.

She was also the top choice among the Classes C, D, and E, with near to huge majority preference.

Duterte in November said she decided to run in response to the call of her supporters to serve the country. She is the running mate of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., namesake of the late dictator.

Results of the same survey found that Sotto was the top second choice of the respondents, with 35% saying they would vote for him if their top choice would not continue with their vice presidential candidacy.

He was followed by Duterte with 15%, Pangilinan with 14%, Ong with 11%, and Atienza with 3%.

Some 21% of respondents were still unsure of their second choice — 3% indicated that they did not know who their second choice was, 17% said they had none, and 0.2% refused to name their candidate.

Meanwhile, former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. topped the Pulse Asia survey on presidential bets at 60%, with Vice President Leni Robredo placing far second at 16%.

The poll showed Marcos, son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, scoring above 50% in the National Capital Region (57%), Balance Luzon (61%), Visayas (53%) and Mindanao (66%) to dominate his rivals.

Marcos also scored 50% and up in Class C, D and E with 50%, 61% and 56%.

Broadcaster Raffy Tulfo meanwhile topped the Eleksyon 2022 senatorial aspirants survey with a 66.1% rating, followed by former House Speaker and Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano, and Antique Representative Loren Legarda with 58.2% and 58%, respectively. — DVM, GMA News
