No tsunami threat after strong Fiji quake — PHIVOLCS

There is no tsunami threat after the 6.6-magnitude earthquake in Fiji, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said in an advisory.

The agency said that the earthquake occurred south of the Fiji islands at 4:21 a.m. on Thursday with a depth of 568 kilometers.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data," the PHIVOLCS reported.

"This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat  to the Philippines from this earthquake," the agency added. -- BAP, GMA News
