Philippines logs another 2022 daily tally low with 1,923 COVID-19 infections


The Philippines on Saturday logged another lowest daily COVID-19 tally this year with 1,923 COVID-19 cases, increasing the nationwide tally to 3,650,748.

The previous lowest daily COVID-19 tally reported was 2,010 on Tuesday, February 15.

According to the Department of Health's (DOH's) latest bulletin, active infections stood at 62,533, of which 851 were asymptomatic, 57,104 were mild, 2,854 were moderate, 1,420 were severe, and 304 were in critical condition.

The Health Department said of the 1,923 reported cases on Saturday, 1,828 or 95% occurred from February 6 to February 19, 2022.

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 371 or 20%, followed by Region 4-A with 197 or 11% and Region 3 with 188 or 10%.

The DOH said recoveries climbed by 5,158 to 3,523,608, while 198 new fatalities pushed the death toll to 55,607.

The Philippines' COVID-19 positivity rate was at 7.9%, lower than the 9.1% positivity rate recorded on Friday.

Both were higher than the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than a 5% positivity rate. The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 27,761.

The latest data showed that 29% of 3,800 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 20% of the 14,700 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 25% of the 4,200 ward beds in the NCR were in use.

Based on the report, the DOH said all laboratories were operational since February 17, while six laboratories failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The Health Department reported 100 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 94 were recoveries.

Meanwhile, at least 176 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

PNP infections

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday logged at least three new COVID-19 infections among its personnel, increasing its COVID-19 tally to 48,764.

According to the latest PNP data, the total active infections stood at 100.

The PNP also recorded six personnel recovered from the viral disease, bringing its recovery tally to 48,536.

The number of deaths among PNP personnel remained at 128. — DVM, GMA News
