Philippines posts another record low COVID-19 daily tally at 1,019


The Philippines on Tuesday recorded another record low in COVID-19 tally this year with 1,019 cases, bringing the nationwide total to 3,654,284.

On February 21, a total of 1,427 new cases were logged, the lowest since December 30, 2021.

The country's active case count is now 56,668, of which 704 are asymptomatic, 51,395 are mild, 2,840 are moderate, 1,425 are severe, and 304 are critical .

 

 

The Department of Health said of the 1,019 reported cases on Tuesday, 982 or 96% occurred within the recent 14 days from February 9 to February 22, 2022.

The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 197 or 20%, followed by Region 4-A with 124 or 13% and Region 1 with 85 or 9%.

A total of 2,988 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease, bringing the total tally to 3,541,840.

The number of deaths climbed to 55,776 with 13 new fatalities.

Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 positivity rate was at 6.4%, which is lower than the 7.5% positivity rate on Monday.

Both are higher than the World Health Organization's target of less than 5% positivity rate.

The total conducted COVID-19 tests were at 18,177.

Based on the latest data, it also showed that 29% of 3,800 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 19% of the 14,200 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 26% of the 4,000 ward beds in the NCR were in use.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational since February 20, while there were five laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

It also reported 260 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 240 are recoveries.

At least 13 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.—LDF, GMA News
