Robredo vows to build bridge linking Negros, Guimaras, Iloilo

JORDAN, Guimaras —In her campaign trail, Vice President Leni Robredo vowed on Saturday that she will build Negros-Guimaras-Iloilo bridge if she gets elected to the presidency, citing  her "mettle" in delivering programs under her office's Angat Buhay initiative.

She said she has a record of fulfilling her promises with the Angat Buhay program under the Office of the Vice President (OVP.)

"Kapag tayo po ay nabigyan ng pagkakataon, sisiguraduhin po natin na matutuloy na ang Negros-Guimaras-Iloilo bridge" (Given the chance, I will make sure that the Negros-Guimaras-Iloilo bridge will be done), Robredo said.

"Pinag-aralan po iyan ng six years. Pero sisiguraduhin natin na matutuloy na siya kasi life-changing siya lalo na sa mga taga-Guimaras..." (That bridge has been studied for six years. But we will make sure that it will push through this time because it is a life-changing project, especially for Guimaras), she added.

Robredo got a landslide vice presidential win in Guimaras back in 2016 with 56,249 votes, routing all of her rivals, including Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr.

In the final tally, Robredo beat Marcos by just 263,473 votes.

Robredo-Marcos rematch

Robredo and Marcos will have an election rematch on May 9, 2022, this time for the presidency.

Robredo broke into a smile when she saw a sign of a supporter in Guimaras bearing inscriptions "Anak ng BBM (Bongbong Marcos) supporters for Leni."

"Naku, mag-assignment kayo. Mayroon pa kayong 72 days para kumbinsihin ang inyong magulang, kaibigan" (You have a homework. You still have 72 days to convince your parents and friends), she said.

"Mayroon tayong 72 days para iparamdam sa kanila na ang pamahalaang ating ipinapangako at pamahalaan na may puso, at puso ang magpapanalo sa atin sa laban na ito," she added.
