PTA Philippines backs return of face-to-face classes

The National Parent-Teacher Association Philippines (PTA) expressed support for the calls to return to the conduct of face-to-face classes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

PTA president Willy Rodriguez was asked about the calls of the Department of Trade and Industry and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for in-person classes.

According to Rodriguez, the PTA Philippines is also supporting the initiative of the Department of Education on the matter.

“National PTA calling to have face-to-face classes same as supporting DepEd initiative face-to-face classes,” Rodriguez told GMA News Online in a message.

Asked if the PTA has some conditions or requests to the government when it comes to the return of in-person classes, Rodriguez has yet to reply as of writing.

According to the NEDA, around P12 billion would be added to the economy each week if face-to-face classes are back nationwide.

The resumption of face-to-face classes is now under its expanded phase. As of Monday, the DepEd said  a total of 1,726 schools have started their limited face-to-face classes.

According to DepEd, there are around 47,000 public schools and 12,000 private schools in the country.

With the de-escalation to Alert Level 1 in some areas, the DepEd is expecting that more schools will open limited in-person classes. — BM, GMA News
