The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Democracy Watch on a voter education initiative for the youth and first-time voters.

Interim Comelec chairperson Soccoro Inting noted that the initiative was crucial given that a huge chunk of the total number of registered voters were young people.

"Hence, putting emphasis on educating the youth shall definitely create a big impact on the selection of our leaders come May 9," Inting said.

The voter education campaign would be held online and was a fitting platform amid the pandemic to reach the greatest number of participants.

"In the conduct of these virtual campaigns, may we always impress upon our young voters the fact that the nation is counting on them, not just in the responsibilities they are going to take in the future, but also in the choices they make today," Inting said.

"Ang kabataan ay hindi lang pag-asa ng bayan, kundi maaasahan ng bayan," Inting added.

(The youth are not only the hope of our country but the nation also depended on them.)
