Isko vows business-friendly, consistent policies

Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno has vowed to make business-friendly and consistent policies to encourage more foreign investors in the Philippines and allow sustained growth for the local Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry.

During a roundtable discussion organized by the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), the Aksyon Demokratiko bet said he will address the issues and challenges faced by the IT-BPM sector if he wins the May 9 polls.

“As an ally in creating jobs for more Filipinos and in nation-building, I assure you that my administration’s policies will be business friendly and consistent to induce foreign investors and enable sustained growth for the IT-BPM industry,” he said.

Education, labor and employment, infrastructure, digital transformation, and good governance are among the main pillars of Moreno’s “10-point Bilis Kilos Economic Agenda” to boost human and economic growth.

One of his plans is to invest in improving the country’s internet connectivity through a national fiber backbone that will connect all schools, government offices, and other agencies requiring connectivity.

Moreno said adopting a system of online transactions in government will also reduce human discretion which is the root of corruption.

“Customs and other income-generating agencies of government, we have to adopt existing technology. All we have to do is to put direction, right perspective, right mindset of a leader towards a better system for the people, and for us to collect properly so that we will not resort to raising taxes. Maging episyente na lang tayong kumolekta at maging masinop at mainam sa paggastos [Let's just be efficient in collecting and be prudent in spending],” he added.

He previously said his city has lessened corruption in the city hall by limiting human transactions in government through the mobile application GOManila.com.

Moreno’s infrastructure program also prioritizes building more power plants, both conventional and renewable, to ensure a “stable and affordable” supply of electricity to grow the economy and attract foreign investments, thus providing more jobs.

Further, he said he will push for investments in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses to ensure the future of the youth.

He added that he will invest in human resources development for the transformation of business process outsourcing (BPO) to knowledge process outsourcing which gives better incomes.—LDF, GMA News
