Isko suffers from costochondritis in Sorsogon, is checked by running mate Willie Ong
Presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno is suffering from costochondritis while campaigning in Sorsogon, his running mate Dr. Willie Ong said Monday.
In a Facebook post, Ong said Moreno approached him due to chest pain.
"Tinanong ko siya, ilang minuto o oras na yan sumasakit? Sabi niya ay buong umaga na, more than 1 hour na," the Aksyon Demokratiko vice presidential bet said.
(I asked him, how many minutes or hours has that been hurting? He said all morning, for more than one hour already.)
According to Ong, the pain stemmed from fatigue.
"Ayos naman ang pakinig ko sa puso niya. Ang sabi ko ay balewala yan, sa buto lang ang sakit dahil sa sobrang pagod. Ang diagnosis ko ay costochondritis. Hindi yan sakit sa puso," he said.
(His heart seemed okay. I told him he's fine, it's all in the joints because of fatigue. My diagnosis is costochondritis. It's not heart disease.)
According to a statement, Ong's wife, Dr. Liza Ramoso-Ong, also monitored and assisted during Moreno's checkup.
Citing the Mayo Clinic, the team of Moreno said costochondritis is "an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone" while the pain it causes may mimic a heart attack or other heart conditions.
Ong, an internist and cardiologist with over 16 million followers on Facebook, assured that Moreno is in healthy condition.
Moreno, Ong and senatorial bets Samira Gutoc, Jopet Sison, Carl Balita, and John Castriciones will visit Sorsogon and Albay on Monday for campaign activities.
In an ambush interview following his town hall meeting in Sorsogon, Moreno said his condition is "nothing serious."
"Nagkakaroon ako ng ano, eh, muscle pain lang pala. Kaya maswerte nga ako, sabi ko. Kaya wag niyo na kami paghiwalayin. Biruin mo saan ka nakakita, may vice president na ako, may doktor pa ko," he said.
(I experienced muscle pain. That's why I'm lucky, I said. So please don't separate us. Where else can you see this? I have a vice president and a doctor.)
"Pero nothing serious (it's nothing serious)," he added.
Moreno attributed the pain to changes in weather conditions and a "tedious schedule."
"Okay naman (I'm fine), so far. Nothing to worry at all, as in literally zero," he said. —KG, GMA News
