Walden Bello wants to cleanse Davao City over alleged corruption

Vice presidential candidate Walden Bello said Sunday that he wants to focus on "cleansing" Davao City should he win in Eleksyon 2022.

At the Comelec PiliPinas Debates 2022: The Turning Point, Bello mentioned the city's coastal road and the modernization of its public utility vehicles.

"I would focus on cleansing, cleaning up Davao. For instance 'yung 36.8 coastal highway road... P1 million pesos per meter? That's crazy... that's really corrupt. 'Yung modernization nila ng PUV system nila, they took away, they defrauded so many people and consolidated the whole PUV system into three bus companies, corruption 'yan," Bello said.

Bello further claimed that Davao City is the "drug center" of the southern portion of the Philippines. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte's father, President Rodrigo Duterte, has been known for his campaign against illegal drugs.

"Davao as the drug center of the south under the control of a member of a Duterte family. My god, this is something... we need to bring this out so that the people can examine the record of Sara Duterte," he said.

In the debates, Bello also launched tirades over Sara's absence, saying that she should be penalized by the Commission on Elections as well as her running mate, former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Reached for her side, Sara replied: "No comment." — RSJ, GMA News
