Corruption should not be accepted, urges BBM to set example –Moreno

LUCENA, Quezon - For presidential candidate and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno, corruption should not be seen as something that will always be constant.

“At the end of the day, while the world is not perfect — talaga namang hindi perpekto ang mundo, ang tao, ang gobyerno — but at least wag man lang natin tanggapin na para bang wala na tayong magagawa,” Moreno said in an ambush interview.

Moreno was asked about the remark of another presidential candidate, former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr., that corruption was not a “Philippine condition” but a “human condition.”

In his one-on-one interview with talk show host Boy Abunda, Marcos had said that “there are dishonest people wherever you go.”

However, the Aksyon Demokratiko bet urged Marcos to be an example to the people.

“Katulad nung halimbawa batas na ipinaiiral sa isang regular na pamilya na kapag nagmana ‘yung anak kinukuha ng gobyerno ‘yung buwis na marapat sa gobyerno at tao,” he said,

In 2021, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) sent a written demand to the family of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos regarding their tax liabilities amounting to P203.819 billion.

Moreno had vowed to retrieve the Marcos family's estate tax debt, proposing to use the money for aid.

“Ako naman ang payo ko lang, kung tayo ay maglilingkod, kung ako sa kanya, siya na manguna. Na i-surrender nalang nila yung marapat sa bansa para magamit natin itong ayuda,” he said.

“Malaking bagay ito kapag ikinusang loob nya na yung pagbibigay nung bagay sa gobyerno at tao. Nakalagay naman don sa order eh, final and executory,” he added.
