DRAFT EO NOW WITH PALACE

DepEd seeks new teaching levels to expand promotional opportunities

An executive order seeking to increase teacher positions with corresponding higher salary grades is currently pending with Malacañang, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Tuesday.

Interviewed on Dobol B TV, DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said some educators are stuck at Teacher III since Master Teacher I demands high educational requirements.

“Ito ay isang pending EO natin sa [This is our pending EO] now with the Office of the Executive Secretary that will add several more teaching levels,” he said.

“Magdadagdag tayo ng [We will add] Teacher IV, V, VI and VII that will have their corresponding higher salary grade of Salary Grade of 14, 15, 16, and 17,” Malaluan added.

Currently, Teacher I receives Salary Grade 11 at P22,000; Teacher II receives Salary Grade 12; and Teacher III receives Salary Grade 13.

According to Malaluan, some teachers retire at Teacher II.

“Nilalawakan natin ang promotional opportunities ng ating mga guro [We are expanding the promotional opportunities of our teachers],” Malaluan said.

The proposal already received concurrence from the Civil Service Commission, he said.

Malaluan added that the DepEd is waiting for the concurrence of the Professional Regulation Commission and comments from the Department of Budget and Management.

After submitting the requirements this week, Malaluan said the Office of the Executive Secretary will endorse the proposed EO to President Rodrigo Duterte for his signature. —KBK, GMA News
