Acting Laguna police director relieved from post

The acting police provincial director of Laguna was relieved from his post after he was linked to the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts or “sabungeros.”

According to a report on “24 Oras", Police Colonel Rogarth Campo will be transferred to another department while the investigation is still ongoing.

During the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs’ third hearing on the missing cockfighting enthusiasts on Monday, gaming tycoon Atong Ang accused Ocampo that he was allegedly handling his cases on illegal cockfighting during that time.

Ang also said Campo offered to  “abduct” the persons involved in the said cloning.

The acting Laguna police director explained that it was Ang’s e-sabong firm that requested assistance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) which led to the meeting with the gaming tycoon and his staff in Mandaluyong.

Campo said he could not recall that he offered Ang to abduct those who were allegedly involved in the said cloning of the latter's e-sabong firm.

He said that his statement might be just a “slip of the tongue.”

Meanwhile, a witness tagged the personnel and guards of the Manila Arena to the disappearance of six missing cockfighting enthusiasts, according to Emil Sumangil’s “24 Oras” report.

The Philippine National Police (PNP)’s Special Investigation Group Sabungero (SITG) and CIDG formally filed complaints of kidnapping and serious illegal detention against the management and security personnel of the Manila Arena. —Richa Noriega/NB, GMA News
