NUP endorses presidential bid of Bongbong Marcos

The National Unity Party (NUP) on Thursday endorsed former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s presidential bid.

“We wish to announce that the National Unity Party (NUP) has decided to endorse the presidential bid of former Senator Bongbong Marcos,” the group said in a statement.

It said that Marcos’ appeal for unity to solve the country’s woes is consistent with the NUP's vision of "one nation, one future."

“BBM's call for unity as the basic strategy for economic recovery, amidst the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and global uncertainties, is consistent and supportive of the NUP’s primary vision of ‘one nation, one future’ as enshrined in the party constitution,” it said.

The NUP urged other party members to support Marcos and help him bring the country to progress.

“We call upon all our party members to join hands with former Senator Marcos in bringing our country and people to continued prosperity and progress,” it said.

The Marcos camp welcomed the NUP's endorsement, saying that it confirms the movement for "national unity and nation-building, which started as a mere whisper, is now a crescendoing national chorus."

"With deep sense of humility and gratitude, we extend our appreciation to the leadership and members of the NUP for placing their trust on presidential frontrunner Bongbong Marcos to fulfill the common vision - 'one nation, one future,'" Marcos' spokesman Vic Rodriguez said.

"Indeed, together, as one, we are bound to make the dreams and aspirations of our people a tangible reality," he added.

Last Tuesday, the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi announced its support for Marcos' presidential run, saying that his platform is most aligned with that of party chairman President Rodrigo Duterte's development program.

Acting presidential spokesman Martin Andanar, however, clarified that the Chief Executive is not yet endorsing Marcos. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ/VBL, GMA News
