101 dead, 102 missing, 103 injured in Leyte's Baybay City due to Agaton –CDRRMO


The total fatalities in Baybay City, Leyte due to the onslaught of Tropical Depression Agaton (international name: Megi) was 101, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) said Friday.

Based on its 12 p.m. report, the CDRRMO said that deaths were reported in barangays Kantagnos (42), Mailhi (20), Bunga (17), Can-ipa (5), San Agustin (3), Maypatag (2), Pangasugan (2), and Palhi (2).

One fatality each was also reported in Candadam, Zone 21, Caridad, Igang, Sto. Rosario, Apid, Gacat, and Inopacan.

Around 102 people were missing: 93 in Kantagnos, six to eight in Mailhi, and one in Pangasugan.

A total of 103 people were injured: 52 were admitted to hospitals, 50 were outpatients, and one outpatient was from the Philippine Coast Guard.

Over 3,600 residents evacuated from their homes due to Agaton.

Landslides were reported in barangays Gaas Section, Villa Solidaridad, Can-ipa, Amguhan, Punta, Kantagnos, Bunga, Mailhi, Maypatag, Bubon, and Gacat, the CDRRMO said.

While floods in low-lying areas have subsided, human passage and activities remained unsafe.

In its 8 a.m. report on Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the reported death toll from Agaton climbed to 137.

According to the NDRRMC, 128 of the reported fatalities were from the Eastern Visayas, six from the Western Visayas, and three from Davao City. — DVM, GMA News
