Robredo calls on followers to focus on campaign with weeks left before May polls

Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo over the weekend called on her followers to focus on campaign efforts, with just weeks left before the national elections.

In a social media post on Sunday evening, Robredo appealed for followers to continue on-the-ground campaigns and reach more people.

“Mulas bukas, 20 campaign days nalang natitira. Kailangan ‘wag tayong magpatalo sa emosyon. Huwag nang magbitaw ng masasakit na salita,” she said.

“Focus lang muna tayo sa kampanya—tao sa tao, puso sa puso. May bayan tayong kailangan ipaglaban,” she continued.

[Starting tomorrow, there will only be 20 campaign days left. Let us not let our emotions get the best of us. Do not resort to hurtful words. Let us just focus on the campaign—person to person, heart to heart. We have a country we need to fight for.]

Robredo in her post also thanked her followers for defending her, after Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso called for the withdrawal of her candidacy.

“Alam kong maraming nasabi na ngayong araw. Ang iba nainis, ang iba walang pakialam, at ang iba nagalit. Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat na dumipensa,” she said.

[I know much has been said today. Some were annoyed, some were indifferent, some were angry. I thank everyone who defended me.]

This comes after Domagoso said Robredo should do a “supreme sacrifice” and have someone “substitute” as second place in the polls.

“Kung meron mang supreme sacrifice, 'yung number 2 [If there is such a thing as supreme sacrifice, the number 2 in surveys] should do and start. Let Leni withdraw. Withdraw, Leni, if you love your country,” he said, without mentioning Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who is leading in pre-election polls.

Domagoso and other presidential candidates Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales also earlier on Sunday called a press conference to reiterate they they will not back out of their respective presidential bids. — BM, GMA News
