Philippine National Police chief Police General Dionardo Carlos on Monday said he was unaware of any alleged order for him to be replaced as PNP head by April 25.

At a press conference, Carlos was asked about a circulating text message that Lieutenant General Rhodel Sermonia, PNP’s deputy chief for administration, would take over as officer-in-charge.

“If there's an order I will follow. So ako naman, trabaho lang yung hinanap ko (I am just looking to work). If the task is done, then I will retire come May 8, that is according to the law, so I will follow,” he said.

Carlos will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on May 8.

When asked if there was such an order, he said, “Nandito pa ako kaya ibig sabihin, ‘Magtrabaho ka pa Caloy.' Ako trabaho lang ako. I make sure I work up to the last day. If the work is done and that sets everything,” he said.

(I am still here so it means, “Continue to work Caloy”. I just work. I make sure I work up to the last day. If the work is done and that sets everything.)

On November 12, Carlos officially took over the PNP leadership. He was the seventh PNP chief under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Carlos said his leadership would focus on ensuring the orderly and peaceful conduct of the national and local elections on May 9. — DVM, GMA News
