BI nabs South Korean fugitive wanted for murder, fraud
Operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a South Korean fugitive wanted in South Korea for murder and involvement in massive telecommunications fraud.
Jang Youngjn, 38, was nabbed by the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSI) in his residence in Cubao, Quezon City on Friday.
According to BI-FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy, Jang is under an Interpol red notice and had two separate outstanding warrants of arrest from the Cheongju District court and the Seoul Central District court.
His murder case stemmed from an incident in Parañaque City on January 16, when Jang allegedly mauled a fellow Korean during a heated argument in a drinking session which resulted in the victim dying from head trauma.
Jang was also supposedly involved in a telecom fraud syndicate operating in China that victimized Koreans through a voice phishing scam. Their combined losses amounted to more than ?63-million or around P2.6M.
The suspect is now detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City awaiting deportation. — DVM, GMA News
