South Korea's Moon condoles with Agaton victims

South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Tuesday conveyed his condolences to the victims of Tropical Storm Agaton's onslaught.

On Twitter, Moon said he was “deeply saddened” to hear about the deaths and damage caused by the storm.

“On behalf of the Korean Government and people, I express condolences to the bereaved family in great sorrow and pain. My heart is also with those who have been displaced and lost their homes due to the unexpected disaster as well as with the people of the Philippines sharing the grief,” he said in a series of tweets addressed to the office of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“I hope that the search for survivors and recovery work will proceed smoothly under your leadership so that the people of the Philippines can swiftly return to their peaceful life,” he added.

Agaton wreaked havoc on parts of the Visayas and Mindanao ahead of Holy Week.

As of April 24, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the death toll from the storm rose to 212. A total of 132 individuals have also been reported missing.
