What is an absentee voter, and who qualifies as one?
In the Philippines, one can be considered an absentee voter if you’re a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, and media practitioners whose duty falls during primary election day, which this year is May 9.
According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec), 84,357 registered voters were allowed to avail of local absentee voting (LAV) from April 27 to April 29, 2022.
Meanwhile, 1.7 million registered overseas absentee voters were accounted for.
Votes from LAV will be counted along with votes cast on May 9, 2022. — Hermes Joy Tunac/LA, GMA News
