Casquejo expects proclamation of winning senators this week

Commission on Elections Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said Tuesday that the poll body expects to proclaim winning senators and party-list groups this week for the May 9 national elections.

Sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), the Comelec earlier acknowledged the fast pace of the transmission of election results, noting that it may be the fastest since the country has started conducting automated elections.

Casquejo said that if the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) and City Board of Canvassers (CBOC) will be able to fully transmit their results, the Comelec can already proclaim the winners.

“Kasi may mga iba kasi CBOC hindi rin sila makapag-transmit kasi hindi kumpleto so the basis of proclamation of our senators and even party-list is the transmitted result from the PBOC, or CBOC to the NBOC. Kapag nakapagtransmit na sila then we can proclaim the winning senators and partylist,” he said at a press briefing.

(There are other CBOC that cannot also transmit because of incomplete results. So the basis of proclamation of our senators and even party-list is the transmitted result from the PBOC, or CBOC to the NBOC. Once they have transmitted then we can proclaim the winning senators and party-list.)

“Kakayanin natin within this week kung pwede. Hopefully this week kung kakayanin magproproclaim na tayo,” he added.

(We can handle it within this week if possible. Hopefully, this week we will be able to proclaim the winners.)

Meanwhile, the Comelec, sitting as the NBOC for senators and party-list races, has resumed session on Tuesday at 1:17 p.m.

However, the NBOC suspended its canvass after no complete certificates of canvass have been received.

Only 20 out of 83 provincial certificates of canvass (COCs) transmitted as of 2:33 p.m.

The NBOC will resume its canvass at 7 p.m.

The Comelec on Monday formally convened as the NBOC for the senatorial and party-list races for Eleksyon 2022.

On Monday at past 5 p.m., the NBOC announced that it was suspending its session to wait for the transmission of votes for senators and party-list.

The NBOC shall canvass the votes and proclaim the winning senatorial candidates and party-list groups. —LBG, GMA News
