8 Marcos kin win local posts in Ilocos Norte, Leyte


Eight relatives of presidential frontrunner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. were proclaimed to various local posts in Ilocos Norte and Leyte, Maki Pullido reported on “24 Oras” on Wednesday.

Political neophyte Sandro Marcos, the son of Marcos Jr., was elected representative for the District 1 of Ilocos Norte.

Matthew Marcos Manotoc, Senator Imee Marcos’ son, was also proclaimed as the governor of the province.

Cecilia Araneta Marcos, Marcos Jr.’s cousin-in-law, secured another term as vice governor.

Eugenio Angelo Barba similarly won as congressman by landslide with 127,867 votes in the District 2 of Ilocos Norte.

Michael Marcos Keon was proclaimed mayor of Laog City.

Martin and Alfred Romualdez, cousins of Marcos Jr., were reelected as Leyte congressman and Tacloban City mayor, respectively.

Martin’s wife, Yedda, is also projected to return to the House of Representatives after the party-list she represents, Tingog, got 873,015 or 2.42 percent of votes, based on partial and unofficial results.

Family affair in the Senate?

Members of political clans in the country are set to win seats in the Senate for Eleksyon 2022.

Half-brothers JV Ejercito and Jinggoy Estrada are poised to return to the upper chamber together.

Based on partial and unofficial results, Ejercito was in 10th place with 15,685,101 votes while Estrada was in 12th spot with 14,962,490 votes.

Incumbent Senator Pia Cayetano will be joined by his brother Alan Peter Cayetano for a seat in the Senate.

Aside from Cynthia Villar, son Mark Villar, would also be a new member of the Senate.

Meanwhile, political neophytes Robin Padilla and Raffy Tulfo are also set to win as Senators with 26,441,808 and 23,157,825 votes, respectively.

The Senate Magic 12 for this year’s elections is largely comprised of candidates allied with President Rodrigo Duterte.

Reelectionist Senator Risa Hontiveros is the lone opposition bet in the top 12 as of the latest count.—Mel Matthew Doctor/LDF, GMA News
