Australian PM Morrison congratulates Bongbong Marcos

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Saturday congratulated presumptive president Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. for leading the national elections.

"I congratulate Ferdinand Marcos Jr @bongbongmarcos on being elected President of the Philippines at the national elections on 9 May," Morrison said on Twitter.

Morrison then said he is looking forward to "advance" the ties between Australia and Philippines.

"Following the 75th anniversary of Australia-Philippines relations last year, we look forward to continuing to advance our long-standing friendship," he said.

Partial and unofficial results from 98.35% election returns via the Comelec Transparency Media Server as of 2:47 p.m. on Friday showed Marcos Jr. with 31,104,175 votes.

Vice President Leni Robredo on the other hand had 14,822,051 votes via the same partial and unofficial count. —KG, GMA News
