Arroyo personally conveys support to Romualdez's speakership bid

Former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo personally relayed her support on the speakership bid of House Majority Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez in the 19th Congress.

Information from Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) stated that Arroyo, a former Speaker, and Romualdez met in a restaurant in San Juan City to discuss the challenges in Congress and the nation in general.

Romualdez said he is counting on Arroyo's advice in leading the House of Representatives.

"Thank you, Ma’am. Coming from our President Emeritus in Lakas-CMD, it means a lot to me,” Romualdez, Lakas-CMD president, said in a statement.

Romualdez, cousin of presumptive president Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., has been endorsed to be the Speaker of the 19th Congress by prominent lawmakers and various political parties. He ran unopposed as representative of the first district of Leyte in the May 9 elections.

Romualdez said he would do his best to push for the agenda of the incoming administration in the House, and to serve his colleagues and constituents well. —KBK, GMA News
