Philippines COVID-19 cases from May 16-22 up 9.9% from previous week


The Philippines logged 1,214 new COVID-19 cases from May 16 to 22, higher by 9.9% from the previous week, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

According to the DOH, the daily average of cases was at 173.

The DOH also reported 14 new severe and critical cases and six new COVID-19 fatalities. Of the fatalities, three occurred from May 9 to May 22.

Meanwhile, 4,125 or 17.4% of non-intensive care unit beds are occupied while 432 or 15.4% of ICU beds are in use.

Data also showed that 718 or 12.9% of COVID-19 admissions are in severe and critical condition.

Experts have warned of a possible COVID-19 surge due to the transmissible Omicron subvariant BA.4, which was detected in the country on Sunday.

Last week, the Philippines also detected the local transmission of the Omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1. There are a total of 17 cases in the country so far.

Meanwhile, a total of 69,042,538 individuals have been fully vaccinated against the illness while 13,860,791 have received booster or additional doses.

191 new cases on May 23

On Monday, May 23, 2022, the DOH logged 191 new cases, bringing the country's active tally to 2,271.

The new infections raised the nationwide count to 3,689,132.

The Health department said total recoveries rose to 3,626,406, while the country’s death toll remained at 60,455.—With Mel Matthew Doctor/AOL/LDF, GMA News
