Duterte on presidency: Shortcomings due to lack of time not negligence

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he did his best to deliver what he could for the country during his six years in Malacanang.

At the inauguration of the new head office of the Metro Manila Development Authority in Pasig, Duterte said that if he fell short of expectations it wasn't because he didn't try.

"Para sa akin, iyon na 'yun. It was what my best efforts could achieve. Kung kulang pa iyon, pasensiya na kayo," Duterte said.

(For me, that was it. It was what my best efforts could achieve. If it was not enough, I am sorry.)

"Hindi ko na talaga kaya. The things I failed to do, it is not because of negligence... Six years is not enough to finish all the projects," he added.

(I cannot do anything beyond that.)

Duterte thanked the audience, including the television networks covering the event, for being a part of his presidency.

"Sa inyong lahat, pati TV networks, hindi ko na i mention, basta lahat, maraming salamat po sa inyo and your help in my journey in [the last] six years," Duterte said.

(To you all, including the TV networks, I won't mention names, thank you very much and thank you for your help.)

"It is an honor maging presidente ng Pilipinas," he added.

(It is an honor to be the Philippine President.)

Duterte's term ends on June 30, 2022.

His daughter Davao City mayor Sara Duterte, however, is set to be proclaimed as the duly elected vice president this week amid a winning margin of over 22 million votes in the partial and unofficial count based on transparency servers. —NB, GMA News
