At least 30 electoral protests filed in connection with 2022 elections — Comelec spox

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said it has received at least 30 electoral protests in connection with the 2022 polls as of May 23.

At a press briefing, Comelec acting spokesperson Rex Laudiangco said the Electoral Contests Adjudication Department has been docketing and reviewing these protests.

“The Electoral Contests Adjudication Department had informed that they had already received 30 as of May 23, they have received 30 election protest cases,” he said.

Laudiangco added the protests will proceed in accordance with the rules of procedure.

He noted that the Comelec only has the jurisdiction on electoral protests involving city, provincial, and regional positions.

Earlier, poll watchdog Kontra Daya claimed there was fraud in the 2022 elections citing lack of transparency and oversight of experts, disinformation, vote-buying, intimidation, among others.

The International Coalition for Human Rights also concluded that the national and local elections this year did not meet the criteria for free and fair polls.

But Malacañang insisted that there were no irregularities in the recently-concluded elections, as pronounced by President Rodrigo Duterte in his Talk to the People last May 11. — RSJ, GMA News
