Comelec wraps up canvassing of Eleksyon 2022 votes for party-lists

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), has concluded the canvassing of all 173 certificates of canvass (COCs) for the 2022 national and local elections on Wednesday afternoon.

The NBOC resumed its session at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday to finish the canvassing of the last COC coming from Tubaran, Lanao de Sur which conducted its special elections on May 24, Tuesday.

The province earlier reported failure of elections after 12 barangays experienced election-related violence, threats, and intimidation.

In a press conference, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the conduct of the special elections in Lanao del Sur was "successful," as there were no violence reported and no vote counting machine (VCM) that malfunctioned.

“We were so successful yesterday. Walang untoward incidents, walang kahit anong violence. Walang nareport (There were no untoward incidents and violence reported),” he said.

Based on NBOC’s latest canvass report released last week, the following were leading the party-list race:

  • ACT-CIS – 2,103,127 (5.7997)
  • 1-Rider Partylist – 999,655 (2.7567)
  • Tingog – 884,709 (2.4397)
  • 4PS – 834,367 (2.3009)
  • Ako Bicol – 815,892 (2.2500)
  • Sagip – 774,103 (2.1347)

The NBOC is set to release its National Tally Sheet Report Number 8 later in the day, which will be the basis for the proclamation of the winning party-list groups targeted on Thursday.

The law provides that a party-list group that gets at least 2% of the total number of votes cast in the party-list race will be entitled to at least one seat in the House of Representatives.

Those who exceed the 2% threshold will be entitled to additional seats proportionate to the number of votes cast, but the total number of seats for each winning party-list group cannot exceed three.

Those who do not meet the 2% requirement may still be able to secure a seat in the House because the party-list law also requires that 20% of House members come from the party-list ranks.

On the other hand, the Congress, also sitting as NBOC, have also finished the canvassing of COCs for president and vice president.—AOL, GMA News
