Imee Marcos: BBM eyeing historical sites as venue for his inauguration

The camp of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos is considering outdoor historical sites, including the Quirino Grandstand, Fort Santiago, and the National Museum, as possible venues for the inauguration, his sister Senator Imee Marcos said on Sunday.

Imee noted that there was some level of concern over the Quirino Grandstand as a quarantine and isolation facility had been built in the area.

“Ang gusto kasi namin, ang number one criteria sana ay outdoor para hindi na ma-COVID. Kasi we don’t want to expose people because there seems to be an uptick in infections,” Imee said during her interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(What we want is for it to be held outdoors because we don’t want to expose people to COVID19 as there seems to be an uptick in infections.)

“Sentimentally, ang gusto ko talaga ay Luneta. Pinagpipilitan namin ang Quirino Grandstand. Kaya lang pansamantalang ospital yata at quarantine doon,” she added.

(Sentimentally, what I like is Luneta. We insist on the Quirino Grandstand. But I think there’s a temporary hospital and quarantine facility there.)

The Senator also bared that Manila Mayor Isko Moreno had texted them about the preparations for the inauguration at the Quirino Grandstand.

“Lumang kaibigan si Isko. Nag-text nga sa akin na anuman ang kaauyusan ang gusto (tutulong siya),” Imee said.

(Isko is an old friend. He even texted me that whatever the arrangement, he would help.)

“There’s also the possibility of Fort Santiago na napakagandang backdrop at mas maliit at contained place. Also, apparently, the National Museum because it is the old Senate at may outdoor din daw sa likuran,” she added.

(There’s also the possibility of Fort Santiago, which is a very good backdrop and is a smaller and contained place. Also, apparently, the National Museum because it is the old Senate and there is also an outdoor area at the back.)

Bongbong Marcos was proclaimed on Wednesday as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines after Congress, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, declared him the winner of the presidential race in Eleksyon 2022.

Congress also proclaimed Marcos' running mate and President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as the new vice president. — DVM, GMA News
