Medical association endorses Ted Herbosa to be DOH secretary

The Philippine Medical Association said Wednesday that they endorse National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 adviser Dr. Teodoro "Ted" Herbosa to serve as secretary of the Department of Health.

In a letter addressed to President-elect Bongbong Marcos, the PMA also cited Herbosa’s experience and expertise in the medical field that the association thinks his best qualifications for the position.

“On this basis, allow us to endorse Teodoro Javier Herbosa, a Life Member of the PMA with vast experience and extensive expertise in Health Care Systems, Public Health, Hospital Administration, Trauma Surgery, Emergency and Disaster Medicine,” the letter reads.

“Kindly allow him to serve as the Secretary of Health to fulfill the Health Goals of your administration,” it added.

According to PMA, Presidential Adviser Joey Concepcion earlier included Herbosa as one of the best two options to be the next DOH secretary.

“As we all try to put the COVID-19 pandemic under control, the incoming head of the Department of Health will play an important role to achieve that goal,” Concepcion said.

Marcos, however, has yet to confirm Herbosa for the post of DOH secretary.

Aside from being a Special Adviser of the (NTF) CoVID-19, he was recently appointed as Member of the Board of PhilHealth before he accepted the post as Chairman, Emergency Medicine at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (PGH). —LBG, GMA News
