Up to 8,000 cops to be deployed for Marcos inauguration — MPD chief


Around 7,000 to 8,000 cops will be deployed to ensure the security of the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on June 30, Manila Police District (MPD) chief Police Brigadier General Leo Francisco said Monday.

Interviewed on GMA News’  Unang Balita, Francisco said the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Philippine National Police - National Headquarters will provide additional deployment.

“Sa panig ng MPD, meron kaming 4,400 na kapulisan at iyan ay lahat ide-deploy ko para sa inagurasyon ng ating bagong presidente,” he said.

(On the part of the MPD, we have 4,400 police personnel and I will deploy all of them for the inauguration of our new president.)

“Ako ay bibigyan ng additional complement galing sa NCRPO at sa National Headquarters so we are looking about 7,000 to 8,000 police na puwede i-deploy that day,” he added.

(The NCRPO and the National Headquarters will give us additional complement so we are looking about 7,000 to 8,000 police that can be deployed on that day.)

So far, Francisco said no threat has been monitored yet in connection with the oath-taking of Marcos Jr. which is set to be held at the National Museum of the Philippines.

According to Francisco,  P. Burgos Street and Kalaw Avenue from Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard will be closed to traffic in light of the event. A rerouting plan will be set for motorists, he added.
